#IbibioWOD: 'Mbiam'

Our #IbibioWordofTheDay Today Is "Mbiam" As Submitted By A Follower On Our Twitter Account.

"Mbiam" is a "fetish oath" usually employed to administer oath of allegiance. In Akwa Ibom, it is a common practice by people of all creed and most notably lately, the political class. It is also commonly employed to settle land and boundary disputes in the State. 

Items used during "Mbiam" includes; young plantain plantations, fresh palm fronds, dry gin, etc.

Ibaka Deep Seaport To Create 100,000 Jobs ~ Akpabio

Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that the proposed Ibaka Deep Seaport in the State will create 50,000 to 100,000 jobs upon completion. This disclosure was part of his briefing to PDP Elders from Oro Nation who called on him.

My Friends Have Abandoned Me - Goodluck Jonathan



President Goodluck Jonathan and wife, Dame Patience Jonathan were guest at a Thanksgiving and Farewell Service in his honour at the Church of the Advent, Abuja yesterday. And while responding at the closing stages of the emotion-laden service, President Jonathan thanked Nigerians for the opportunity to serve the country at various capacities, he also touched on other issues, including how his friends and aides have abandoned him since he lost reelection.

NIGERIANS WILL REGRET VOTING BUHARI ~ Nkanga


Joe Effiong, writing in from Uyo for SunNews has disclosed that former indigenous Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Director General, Udom/Moses 2015 Campaign Organisation, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (Rtrd) predicted that Nigerians will regret their decision to vote out Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for Buhari. You would recall Former Military Head of State, Buhari and the APC won the March Presidential Election with over two million votes. He also maintained that Akwa Ibom sticking with the PDP will continue to augur well for the State.

Ekpo Masquerade: The Akwa Ibom Export


It is no longer news that Akwa Ibom State is arguably the richest of States in Nigeria. The State is not only just blessed with fossil deposits and other exploitable minerals but also with human capital. We found this video clip of the Ekpo Masquerade on Youtube, one of many exports of Akwa Ibom State. 

Apart from paid features, most villages in Akwa Ibom State hold end-of-year Masquerade display as in this video, where people are treated to all forms of display from both players and masquerades.
